LIRA Lecture Series: Rationing for Victory: The Role of the OPA in WWII America

LIRA Lecture Series: Rationing for Victory: The Role of the OPA in WWII America

This presentation explores the critical role of the Office of Price Administration (OPA) in managing rationing, price controls, and public behavior on the American home front during World War II. Through a detailed timeline, historical documents, and firsthand recipes and reactions, it examines how the U.S. government mobilized citizens, regulated scarce resources, and fought inflation—one coupon, token, and regulation at a time. Discover the paper trail of policy, enforcement, and everyday adaptation in a nation at war.

Seema-Jayne Kenney started in the business of genealogy after completing the Genealogical Research Certificate Program at Boston University’s Center for Professional Education in 2010. Since then, she continued her education via ProGen & NIGR in 2012.

Seema started exploring her family history when still in High School.  Her paternal family roots go deep into Colonial New England, especially in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Maine. Seema's European roots include English, German, and Swedish.  DNA has recently added a branch to her family tree from The Netherlands.

LIRA is a multi-faceted educational program for the retired and semi-retired, for which there are neither educational nor age requirements. LIRA's philosophy is to provide, at a modest cost, college-level learning experiences for all its members, regardless of previous educational background.
